- Tour of Duty ?: Pirate Dawn
- Version: 1.0
- Date: March 14, 1994
- Author: Aristotle Vinuya
-
- Scenario
- --------
-
- As the old Republic crumbles, its pieces absorbed into the newer and more
- powerful Empire...as brave refugees of the remnant government band together
- into a desperate Rebel Alliance...as the two forces join in battle after
- battle for the hearts and souls of the galaxy, more rational minds produce
- better ideas for taking advantage of the situation.
-
- Thieves, murderers, and other criminals--once guilty in the eyes of the
- Republic--find freedom in the new era as pirates preying on Rebel and
- Imperial alike. Forming their own underground societies and putting into
- power their own merciless masters, the pirates profit off the chaos and
- lawlessness allowed by the Empire.
-
- You are a member of one of these vicious bands. Unwilling to fly for the
- Imperial governors and unbelieving in the cause of the Allies, you instead
- put your valuable piloting skills to use participating in the operations of
- Tiger squadron. You know that the riches, power, and glory you desire can
- be best attained as one of these heartless killers...as one of these
- honorless robbers...as one of these pirates.

-
- Usage
- -----
-
- This software is a user-designed add-on for the LucasArts game, X-Wing.
- It stands alone and does not require additional add-on's such as B-Wing.
- The package consists of the following files:
-
- README This file
- INSTALL.BAT Installs the add-on to your X-Wing game
- UNSTALL.BAT Removes the add-on from your X-Wing game
- *.XW_ X-Wing mission files
- *.BR_ X-Wing briefing files
-
- The installation assumes that you have un-archived all the files from the
- distribution. It does not matter where you un-archived the files. The
- installation also assumes that:
-
- * You are using the default X-Wing directories:
- \XWING
- \XWING\MISSION
- * You have at least 60 Kbytes of free space left on
- your hard drive
-
- Simply run INSTALL to play the add-on. Your X-Wing Tour of Duty I will be
- replaced by Pirate Dawn. Afterwards, run UNSTALL to restore your original
- Tour of Duty I.
-
- Credits
- -------
-
- This Tour of Duty was created using Henry Chang's X-Wing Mission Design
- Kit (XDK) version 1.3 and Tim Scott's X-Wing Briefing Assembler Kit (XBRFASM)
- version as of August 29, 1993.
-
- X-Wing, Star Wars, and elements of the X-Wing game are Registered Trademarks
- of Lucasfilm, Ltd.
-
- Although original for the most part, players familiar with the X-Wing Tour
- of Duty I may recognize that one of the missions in Pirate Dawn is a
- contextually accurate antithesis of one of the missions in Tour of Duty I
- by LucasArts.

- Author's Notes
- --------------
-
- I expect that this particular tour may require more suspension of disbelief
- than other homemade tours out there. After all, this is X-Wing and you're
- supposed to be the good guys. And pirates don't usually get briefings from
- Mon Calamari or get called "red leader" when a missile comes after them.
- Anyway, I hope that X-Wing players still enjoy trying the tour. I wouldn't call
- myself an X-Wing expert, but I can beat these missions in about 3 or 4 tries
- so they should neither be too difficult nor too easy. Please share any
- comments, suggestions, or new ideas for missions with me. I can be contacted

-
- After playtesting the missions several times, there was only one inconsistency
- that I am aware of. XDK would not allow me to create a mission that could be
- completed by capturing an enemy starfighter. Instead, for those types of
- missions, I had to indicate that the mission could be completed simply by
- boarding the enemy starfighters. (Just nitpicking a minor detail.) Thanks to
- LucasArts for a great game!
